During the 17th Century, several books were produced describing the use of rod, line and hook. In Spain, the El Manuscrito de Astorga written by Juan de Bergera in 1624 contained patterns and illustrations of several flies.


Reprints of Isaac Walton’s 1653 The Compleat Angler were issued with a supplement by Charles Cotton from 1676. This included more detailed instructions on fishing with artificial flies and how to tie them. ...back
